This project resulted from the first assignment presented in a typography class. Required to look at the surrounding community as a source for unique typography and to take my own photos, I combined these to create a dialogue. My outcome was an examination of our world in regards to sustainability and waste. It talks about the relationship between these two things and helps to promote awareness and mindfulness, rather than guilt and shame.
In staying true to the theme, re-purposed materials were used in creating the final piece for this work. An old shipping box was cut down into cardboard covers, random pieces of paper were salvaged from past projects and printed on—sometimes printing over existing textures or content. The only ‘new’ parts used in constructing this item were the thread and packing tape in the binding. These materials added to the overall aesthetic. This project was a fantastic exercise in creativity, and in finding new purposes for used items.
